Simba centre-back Wilson Nangu is expected to undergo further medical examinations to determine the extent of the injury he sustained during the CAF Champions League match against Esperance, which was played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and ended in a 2–2 draw.
Nangu was unable to complete the match after picking up the injury. His absence, together with midfielder Yusuph Kagoma—who also suffered an injury above the eye—appeared to destabilize Simba’s midfield and overall defensive line.
After the match, Nangu was unable to walk and had to be assisted and carried onto the team bus. He later received further treatment, with his leg bandaged.
The upcoming tests will determine the seriousness of the injury, the type of treatment required, and how long Simba may be without his services. It is likely that he could be sidelined for several weeks.
Defender Ismael Toure, who joined Simba during the recent mini transfer window, is expected to step in and cover Nangu’s position for the duration of his absence.
