Simba SC Chairman Murtaza Mangungu endured a difficult moment today at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium following the CAF Champions League match between Simba and Esperance, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
As he was leaving the stadium after the match, some fans confronted him and hurled accusations, blaming the club’s leadership for the result that has officially ended Simba’s hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Had it not been for the intervention of the police, who strengthened security, serious unrest could have erupted, as some angry fans went as far as attempting to attack him.
Clearly, this incident sends a strong message to Simba’s leadership: the result has deeply hurt the club’s supporters, who are now demanding to see meaningful changes.
