Simba Head Coach Fadlu Davids says he is waiting for new signings—defender Wilson Nangu and goalkeeper Yacoub Suleiman—to join the squad in camp so he can assess how best to use them, even though he already knows the quality they showed while at JKT Tanzania and with the Taifa Stars.
Simba recently finalized the signings of the two players, who featured for Tanzania in the 2024 CHAN finals co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. They were released by JKT Tanzania last week with a ‘thank you’ note, confirming they were no longer part of the military side.
Speaking recently as he prepares for his second consecutive season in charge, Fadlu said he is well aware of the high standards the two displayed with JKT last season, which convinces him they will perform well in the Premier League starting September 17.
Nangu finished last season with two goals and two assists, while Yakoub recorded eight clean sheets. Both have signed contracts with Simba but have not yet joined camp due to their national team commitments as Tanzania prepares for two 2026 World Cup qualifiers on September 5 and 9.
Because of this, the coach said he is eager to see them in camp, despite already knowing their abilities from their time at JKT and Taifa Stars.
“They are good players, based on what I saw them do in the league last season. Each of them stands out— the goalkeeper with his sharp saves and the defender with his commitment and physicality,” said Fadlu.
“As for what they will add to the squad, I can’t discuss that yet since they haven’t joined camp. If I had seen them in training with their teammates, I’d have more to say.”
“That said, I believe they are young men who know what they want from football, judging by the way they fought hard to help JKT Tanzania,” added Fadlu.
