After strengthening his squad with key signings, Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has made it clear that every player will have to fight for a spot in his starting eleven.
So far, Simba have confirmed at least 10 new signings this transfer window: Naby Camara, Alassane Kante, Jonathan Sowah, Neo Maema, Mohammed Bejaber, Rushine de Reuck, Charles Semfuko, Morice Abraham, Anthony Mligo, and Selemani Mwalimu (yet to be unveiled). Reports also suggest that the club could further add Ahmed Pipino, Wilson Nangu, and goalkeeper Yacoub Suleiman.
Fadlu stressed that even the players who remained from last season must start afresh and earn their place: “What happened last season is history. This is a new beginning. With new and existing players, everyone must fight for their spot,” he said.
On the team’s friendly matches in Egypt, the coach highlighted that results were not the main priority, but rather evaluating player fitness and tactical readiness. Simba have so far beaten Kahraba Ismailia (2-0) and Al Zulfi of Saudi Arabia (1-0), with Jean Charles Ahoua scoring the winner via a free kick, while losing 4-3 to ENPPI.
“We are not focused on results at this stage, but on testing key aspects of our game. I’m pleased with the players’ physical fitness—it’s crucial for this phase. The coming season will be demanding, and we want to ensure the squad can handle a tight schedule both domestically and internationally,” Fadlu told Mwanaspoti.
