Attacking midfielder Mohammed Bajaber is among the players who traveled with Simba’s squad to Egypt for their pre-season preparations, it has been confirmed.
Before joining Simba, Bajaber was part of Kenya’s national team (Harambee Stars) that is preparing for the CHAN tournament set to kick off on August 2.
Bajaber, who played for Kenya Police last season and scored nine league goals, left the national team camp two days ago and traveled to Dar es Salaam, where he signed a two-year contract with Simba.
It is reported that there were earlier discussions suggesting the 22-year-old star should delay signing with Simba until after the CHAN 2024 tournament so that he would be eligible to represent Kenya in the competition, which is exclusively for domestic-based players. However, this plan fell through after Simba insisted on having their new signing report immediately.
Simba’s Head Coach, Fadlu Davids, wanted all his new signings present during the pre-season to give them enough time to bond with the rest of the squad.
Simba will, however, be without Neo Maema, another new signing, who has been allowed to represent South Africa in the CHAN tournament before joining up with the team.
