The Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports, Mohamed Mchengerwa said the government intends to spend Sh 10 billion, renovating seven stadiums, to enable Tanzania to meet the criteria for organizing international and regional competitions including the AFCON 2027.
Presenting the budget speech for the financial year 2022/23 to parliament in Dodoma, Mchengerwa mentioned the Stadiums as Jamhuiri-Dodoma, Sheikh Amri Abeid - Arusha, Sokoine - Mbeya, CCM Kirumba; Mwanza, and Mkwakwani - Tanga.
"The renovation will also include Uhuru and Benjamin Mkapa stadiums in Dar es Salaam. The next step is to renovate other stadiums including the installation of artificial grass and platforms in Kigoma, Rukwa, Mtwara, Iringa, Tabora and Shinyanga after negotiations with the owners of the Stadiums "
"This will enable Tanzania to successfully prepare for the hosting of the AFCON tournament, which Tanzania has already proposed for 2027 which is the dream of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to host a major sports tournament," said Minister Mchengerwa.
