Yanga’s Head of Information and Communications, Ali Kamwe, says the club still have a chance to win the NBC Mainland Premier League title despite their 2-1 defeat to Simba in the Kariakoo Derby last weekend.
Kamwe noted that 23 league matches remain to be played, insisting that the result of a single game should not discourage the club’s supporters, members and fans as they continue their pursuit of this season’s championship.
Speaking to journalists at Yanga’s headquarters in Jangwani, Kamwe said the club remains committed to its objective of winning the domestic league title. He added that the defeat to Simba should serve as a learning experience and help the team strengthen its preparations for upcoming matches.
He acknowledged that losing to traditional rivals is particularly painful for supporters because of the intense rivalry and emotions surrounding the fixture. However, he urged Yanga members and fans to channel their energy into helping the team return to its best form.
“Young Africans Sports Club’s objective this season is to compete for and win the domestic league title. We must not allow the result of one match to distract us from our direction or make us forget what we set out to fight for at the beginning of the season,” Kamwe said.
He added that unity, solidarity, discipline and proper preparation would be essential in helping the team overcome its current challenges and remain competitive in the remaining matches.
Kamwe urged Yanga supporters to continue backing their team rather than losing hope because of the Kariakoo Derby result, stressing that this is the time to strengthen belief and unity within the club.
He also called on the players and technical bench to learn from the mistakes made during the match to prevent disappointing results from recurring in future fixtures.
