Finally, the day has arrived! The Kariakoo Derby is back as Simba and Yanga meet once again in a Mainland Premier League clash at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The two teams return to the venue popularly known as 'Shamba la Bibi' after nearly nine years. The last time they met at Uhuru Stadium was in 2017, when the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Simba took the lead through Shiza Kichuya before Yanga equalised through Obrey Chirwa.
Today marks another chapter in the rivalry between two of the country's football giants at a stadium that has undergone major renovations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Tanzania will co-host.
Yanga head into the match in impressive form this season, having won all six of their opening league games and sitting at the top of the standings on goal difference.
Their rivals, Simba, have also won all six matches, but Yanga lead the table by virtue of having scored five more goals.
The encounter is expected to be fiercely contested, with both teams having demonstrated their quality throughout the season.
Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has acknowledged that the match will not be easy but insisted that his team has made thorough tactical preparations to secure all three points.
This will be his second meeting with Simba, following Yanga's 1-0 victory in the Community Shield match played on August 12 at New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
Ahead of the derby, Yanga have maintained a notably calm approach to their preparations, choosing not to respond to the boasts of their rivals, Simba, who are determined to end their recent struggles against the Wananchi by winning the match.
Yanga fans will be hoping their team continues its dominance over Simba and maintains its strong start to the season to strengthen its position at the top of the league standings.
Good luck, Wananchi!
