Yanga SC head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has identified set pieces as Simba SC’s most dangerous weapon ahead of the highly anticipated Kariakoo Derby between Tanzania’s traditional rivals.
As Yanga complete their final preparations for the NBC Premier League derby scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Uhuru Stadium, Mngqithi has revealed that he has developed a solid tactical plan to neutralise their opponents and secure all three points.
Speaking about his analysis of the upcoming match, Mngqithi noted that Simba have a significant advantage in their tall players and their ability to win aerial duels, making them particularly dangerous from corners and free kicks near the goal.
The coach singled out defenders and striker Ibrahim Doumbia, Rushine De Reuck and Ismail Toure as players who require close attention because of the threat they pose in aerial situations.
"We have carefully analysed the way they play. They are very dangerous from free kicks and corners because they have tall and physically strong players such as Doumbia, De Reuck and Toure."
"We have prepared with their strengths and physical presence in mind, particularly from free kicks and corners. We will need to prevent them from getting into dangerous positions near our goal," he said.
Mngqithi added that he knows some Simba players well because he has worked with them in the past, giving him useful insight into how to contain them.
Meanwhile, Yanga striker Selemani Mwalimu described Peter Shalulile as an experienced player from whom his teammates learn a great deal. He said the squad has confidence in Shalulile ahead of the Kariakoo Derby against Simba SC.
Mwalimu urged Yanga supporters to turn out in large numbers tomorrow, Saturday, October 10, at Uhuru Stadium to motivate the players. He said the squad is well prepared and that every player given an opportunity will fight for the club’s badge.
