Just days after the CRDB Cup final between Singida Black Stars and Yanga SC, the name of striker Jonathan Sowah has been trending online — but not for the right reasons.
The incident involving the Singida forward being sent off with a red card has raised many questions, especially among Yanga fans, as their club is rumored to be interested in signing the Ghanaian striker.
In the dying minutes of the match held in Zanzibar, Sowah was shown a second yellow card and sent off by referee Ahmed Arajiga after angrily throwing the ball following a denied corner kick appeal.
This came after he had already received a first yellow card for a foul on Yanga defender Ibrahim Bacca, who had marked him tightly and kept him quiet throughout the game.
The incident reminded Yanga supporters of a similar occurrence last season when Sowah was playing for Medeama SC of Ghana. During a CAF Champions League match against Yanga in Dar es Salaam, he was also sent off with a red card for a comparable offense.
Online, some Yanga fans have started to express doubts about the player’s discipline. One social media post read:
“Sowah is a good striker, but I have concerns about his discipline. If Yanga signs him, he must be advised to control his temper — otherwise, he’s the kind of player who could cost the team at any moment.”
Sowah, who is now closely linked with a move to Yanga SC to replace Kennedy Musonda whose contract has expired, appears to struggle with emotional control, especially in high-pressure matches.
