Yanga Princess head coach, Edna Lema, has openly declared that she may retire from coaching within the next five years if she does not get the opportunity to coach a men’s team in either the Premier League or the Championship.
Through her social media account, Edna stated that her current major goal is to advance in her coaching career and take on new challenges outside of Tanzania, emphasizing her desire to learn more through practical experience rather than theory alone.
“If within these five years, God grants me good health, and I haven’t coached any men’s team in the Championship or Premier League as a head coach, then I will completely step away from football coaching. I’ll still work in football, but not as a coach,” she said.
Edna also made it clear that if the opportunity does not present itself locally, she is willing to seek new challenges beyond Tanzania’s borders.
“There’s nothing more for me to learn here. I need to go coach abroad to understand both the challenges and ease of it. In making mistakes, I learn and improve,” Edna added, expressing her genuine commitment to pursuing greater success in her coaching career.
For a long time, Edna Lema has been among the few female coaches striving to break into the male-dominated football scene — a feat that remains rare across Africa.
Edna has completed the training required for the CAF A coaching license, which qualifies her to coach top-flight teams both within and outside Tanzania.
