Goalkeeper Beno David Kakolanya’s remarks about money he claims Yanga SC owes him have sparked debate, coming shortly after the club’s midfielder, Abubakar Salum, popularly known as Sure Boy, indicated that he was also owed money by the team.
Kakolanya said one of the reasons behind his departure from Yanga was unpaid money that, according to him, remains outstanding to date.
However, he claimed that he had forgiven the club’s leaders. Kakolanya is a Tanzanian goalkeeper born on June 27, 1994, in Mbeya.
He has played for several clubs in Tanzania, including Tz Prisons, Yanga SC, Simba SC and Fountain Gate FC, before joining Namungo FC in July 2024.
During his time at Yanga, he was part of the squad that won the Tanzanian Premier League titles in the 2016/17, 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.
He later joined Simba SC from Yanga in 2019 before moving to Fountain Gate FC in August 2023 on a free transfer.
Kakolanya also revealed that when he left Simba SC, he received all the money he was owed, a statement that has raised further questions about how clubs handle outstanding payments to their players.
At national team level, Kakolanya received his first call-up to Tanzania’s national team, Taifa Stars, in September 2022 and has made international appearances for the team.
However, the claims made by Kakolanya and Sure Boy require clarification from the parties involved to establish the full picture of the matter.
