Tanzania’s dream of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-23 tournament came to an end today despite securing a convincing 3-1 victory over Kenya’s Emerging Stars in the second leg at Uhuru Stadium.
The fiercely contested match was highlighted by an impressive performance from striker Selemani Mwalimu, who scored twice, while Sheikhan Khamis added Tanzania’s other goal.
Despite the effort that gave the home fans who turned up at the stadium renewed hope, the victory was not enough to send Tanzania through to the next round.
Tanzania were officially eliminated 5-4 on aggregate following their disappointing first-leg result in Kenya, where the hosts secured a 4-1 victory.
Kenya’s away goal in today’s match completely ended Tanzania’s hopes of completing the comeback.
