Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury, the Premier League club have confirmed.
Japan right back, Tomiyasu came off nine minutes into Arsenal's Europa League round of 16 match against Sporting of Portugal after slipping badly and injuring his knee
Arteta expressed his concern soon after the defender's injury as the 24-year-old Japan international 'isn't one to exaggerate things'
"Following his substitution during last Thursday's Europa League match, further assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu has suffered a serious injury to his right knee," Arsenal said in a statement
"Tomi had a successful operation in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the rest of the season."
Arsenal were kicked out of the Europa League on penalties but are still at the top of the English Premier League with eight points ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
The north London club also lost defender William Saliba due to a back injury in the game
