Simba Must Resolve Leadership Dispute to Protect Football Progress and Club Unity

Simba Sports Club has reached a period that every stakeholder would love to see continue for a long time. The team has begun displaying its strength on the pitch, results have been impressive, supporters have fresh reasons to feel proud, and hopes of performing well in domestic and international competitions have grown.

However, while things appear to be going well on the football side, the administrative side is beginning to show signs of a possible dispute that the club should not have to deal with at this particular moment.

Simba chairman Murtaza Mangungu's statement on October 29, 2026, declaring that the general election process scheduled for January 3, 2027, is invalid and unlawful, has raised further questions about how the club is managing its leadership affairs.

The statement came as the Electoral Committee continued with its schedule, inviting eligible members to collect nomination forms for various leadership positions.

This is where Simba needs to reflect deeply. Can the club continue building its football success while its leaders take conflicting positions on an important constitutional process?

The answer is yes, but not without accountability, dialogue and a prompt resolution of the existing differences.

THE SIMBA TEAM ON THE PITCH IS A VALUABLE ASSET THAT MUST BE PROTECTED

First, it is important to recognise that the current Simba team has built a strong competitive foundation. Winning all nine of their opening matches in the 2026/2027 NBC Mainland Premier League season is no ordinary achievement.

Collecting 27 points out of a possible 27, scoring 20 goals and conceding only four are statistics that demonstrate the competitive level the team has reached.

Furthermore, Simba have qualified for the CAF Champions League group stage after defeating Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto 9-1 on aggregate.

These are achievements that deserve the opportunity to grow. The team needs psychological stability, a good preparation environment, cooperation among leaders and confidence from supporters.

Modern football requires more than talent alone. It requires an entire institutional system that enables players and the technical bench to work without being burdened by issues unrelated to their responsibilities.

When leadership disputes become serious, their effects can eventually be felt even in results on the pitch. Players may begin hearing debates among club officials, supporters may become divided, and even the team's preparation environment could be affected.

A dispute in the offices does not necessarily mean the team will lose its next match. However, prolonged uncertainty creates conditions that could undermine the focus, morale and unity of the entire institution.

Simba should not allow such an environment to develop at a time when the team appears to be returning to the level its supporters have long wanted to see.

THE ELECTION DISPUTE MUST NOT TURN INTO AN INSTITUTIONAL CRISIS

The way the election issue is being handled requires even greater attention.

Mangungu has challenged the legitimacy of the announced process, stressing the importance of following the club's constitution and the guidelines of the relevant authorities. On the other hand, the Electoral Committee says it is conducting the process under the authority granted to it by Simba's constitution.

This is not a disagreement that should be resolved through public statements or a contest over who has greater influence within the club.

Simba's 2018 constitution, amended in November 2025 and registered in February 2026, sets out the election procedures, the powers of the General Assembly and the responsibilities of the Electoral Committee.

For example, Article 37 explains how the Electoral Committee is constituted and outlines its responsibilities, while directing that the committee operates under the supervision and guidance of the TFF Electoral Committee.

Meanwhile, the articles concerning the General Assembly set out the procedures for convening the meeting through the chairman in consultation with the Board of Directors.

Therefore, the arguments presented by the opposing sides need to be examined in light of the entire constitution, rather than selecting one article and using it as a weapon to win the debate.

It is important to understand that a leader declaring a process invalid does not automatically mean that the process has been legally nullified. Likewise, the Electoral Committee continuing with its schedule does not resolve the questions being raised about the legitimacy of its authority.

The solution is for the relevant authorities to provide clear constitutional and legal guidance to remove the uncertainty that could continue dividing the club.

Simba is bigger than any individual leader, board or committee. An institution cannot be built on people competing for authority instead of respecting established procedures.

INVESTORS AND SPONSORS NEED A STRONG INSTITUTION

Another reason Simba should protect its stability is the importance of investment and commercial affairs.

Today's Simba is not a team that depends solely on results on the pitch. It is an institution with a huge fan base, a valuable brand, commercial contracts, sponsors and an investment structure that requires trust and transparency.

Success on the pitch increases the value of the Simba brand. Victories enhance its appeal, strengthen the club's position in the market and increase its chances of attracting sponsors and commercial partners.

However, that value can be affected by the way the institution manages its internal disagreements.

An investor needs to see an institution with systems that continue functioning even when its leaders disagree. A sponsor needs assurance that its brand is associated with an institution whose leadership is accountable and capable of managing its challenges.

This does not mean the club should conceal problems to protect its image. On the contrary, transparency and accountability are the best ways to protect investors' confidence.

Issues involving documents, membership records, club administration and the legitimacy of its governing bodies should be addressed through evidence and formal procedures.

There is no reason for a major institution to allow administrative disputes to grow simply because the parties involved have failed to sit down together and find a solution.

SUPPORTERS MUST NOT BECOME FACTIONAL FOLLOWERS

Simba draws enormous strength from its supporters. They are the ones who fill stadiums, buy jerseys, follow broadcasts, travel to support the team and give the club significant social and commercial value.

For a long time, supporters have expected to see Simba perform well both at home and abroad.

The team's current results have brought happiness and restored hope. However, when power struggles dominate discussions about the club, there is a risk that supporters will become divided into factions backing individuals rather than focusing on Simba's broader interests.

Such a situation could undermine unity among members and shift attention away from the team's development towards internal political battles.

Instead of discussing how Simba can perform well against their opponents in the CAF Champions League group stage, supporters may find themselves spending much of their time debating who has authority, who should leave and who should remain.

Simba leaders must recognise that supporters do not belong to any leadership faction. They are a fundamental part of the institution and deserve to see their leaders protect their unity.

THE ELECTION IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO STRENGTHEN DEMOCRACY, NOT DESTROY UNITY

However, defending stability within Simba should not be interpreted as opposing elections or preventing members from exercising their right to choose their leaders.

Elections are an important part of an institution's life. They provide an opportunity to hold leaders accountable, introduce fresh ideas and strengthen the legitimacy of leadership.

Therefore, Simba should approach the January 3, 2027 election with an environment that members can trust and accept.

If there are shortcomings in the appointment of the Electoral Committee, the authority to convene the General Assembly or any other stage of the process, they should be identified and corrected through recognised procedures.

If the Electoral Committee believes it has followed the constitution, it should make clear the constitutional basis and provide documents confirming its authority.

And if there are government or sports authorities' directives that must be followed, those concerned have a responsibility to address them transparently.

The most important thing is to ensure that the election does not become a source of lasting division within the club.

Simba does not need an election in which one side wins while leaving the other wounded. It needs an election that respects the constitution, members' rights and the legitimacy of the institution.
