Simba SC management has begun talks with the club’s head coach, Steve Barker, over a long-term contract extension, it has been reported.
Since arriving at Msimbazi in December 2025, Barker has turned Simba into a formidable force, leading the club to the CRDB Cup title last season.
Furthermore, this season the South African coach has guided Simba to victory in all eight of their opening league matches, putting the Msimbazi Reds at the top of the league standings with 24 points, five points clear of their closest challengers.
Barker has recorded impressive statistics during his 10 months in charge of Simba, with the Msimbazi Reds yet to lose a league match since he took over from Dimitar Pantev.
Reports indicate that Barker signed a one-year contract set to expire at the end of December, prompting Simba to seek a longer-term deal.
The process has reportedly been accelerated after the club discovered that other teams have begun pursuing the coach following his impressive work.
Mamelodi Sundowns are among the clubs reportedly considering changes to their technical bench after being eliminated early from the CAF Champions League (CAFCL).
Mamelodi were knocked out by Angola’s Wiliete SC on the away-goals rule after a 1-1 draw in South Africa. The two teams had played out a goalless draw in the first leg in Angola.
