Simba SC right-back Nathaniel Chilambo continues to attract attention among football fans across the country following his impressive performances and ability to adapt to the team’s needs on the pitch.
In the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) played on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Simba SC produced an impressive display to secure a commanding 6-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto. The match was played at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam following an agreement between the two clubs.
Although hosts 15 de Agosto initially defended with discipline, their resistance was broken in the 43rd minute when Nathaniel Chilambo scored the opening goal, sending Simba into half-time with a 1-0 lead.
That goal eased the pressure and opened the floodgates for five more strikes in the second half. Elie Mpanzu scored in the 56th minute, Ibrahim Doumbia netted twice in the 64th and 88th minutes, Keletso Makgalwa scored in the 72nd minute, and Anicet Oura added another in the 82nd minute.
The hosts scored a consolation goal through Alozie Uwandu in stoppage time.
Is Chilambo a Defender, Midfielder or Striker?
One question increasingly puzzling analysts and fans is how Chilambo is deployed and the role he plays on the pitch.
Although he is listed as a right-back on the team sheet, his responsibilities on the pitch make him a versatile player whose role is not confined to one position.
When the team loses possession, Chilambo quickly drops back into the defensive line to stop attacks down the flanks. When Simba have the ball, he moves into central areas and operates as an inverted full-back, helping to circulate possession and create opportunities.
Chilambo also has an impressive ability to make forward runs into the opponent’s penalty area, which helped him find himself in the right position to score the opening goal against 15 de Agosto.
His signing did not attract much fanfare, but among the players recruited during the previous transfer window, he has arguably made one of the biggest early contributions to the team, perhaps more than some of his teammates.
