Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has praised his players following their emphatic 6-1 victory over Mashujaa FC, while outlining his plans to guide the team into the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) group stage against Equatorial Guinea’s 15 de Agosto.
The convincing victory, secured yesterday at Uhuru Stadium, further strengthened Simba’s position at the top of the NBC Premier League standings. The team has maintained a 100% winning record, collecting 24 points from its opening eight matches.
Speaking after the match, Barker praised his team’s morale and attacking prowess, led by DR Congo star Elie Mpanzu, who scored twice and was named Man of the Match for the second consecutive game.
The other goals for the Msimbazi Reds were scored by Libasse Gueye, Oura, Morice Abraham and Ismail Toure.
“I congratulate the players on a great job. They were hungry for goals and showed a high level of discipline from the first minute to the last. This result gives us a clear picture of the quality of our squad as we prepare for the major challenges ahead,” Barker said.
Turning His Attention to Continental Competition
The South African coach said the team was now directing all its focus and energy towards the first leg of the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League against 15 de Agosto, which could be played at Uhuru Stadium this weekend.
According to CAF’s instructions, both matches against 15 de Agosto could be played at Uhuru Stadium, potentially giving Simba a good opportunity to win and secure qualification for the group stage.
Barker stressed that this would be a unique advantage that Simba must make the most of to secure their place in the group stage as early as possible.
