Simba SC striker Ismail Mgunda has expressed confidence ahead of the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga SC, saying he is 100 percent certain that the Wekundu wa Msimbazi have what it takes to secure victory in the match.
Mgunda, who joined Simba from Mashujaa FC, is preparing to play in his first Kariakoo Derby since arriving at Msimbazi as part of the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 season.
Speaking about preparations for the match, Mgunda said what he has seen in training, together with the work they have done during their camp in South Africa, has given him great confidence in the squad’s ability.
“I am 100 percent confident that we can win the Kariakoo Derby. What I have seen in training and during our preparations gives me great hope,” Mgunda said.
The striker said their preparations have put them in a good position to face the match, with every player aware of the size and importance of the Derby to the club and its supporters.
“We are preparing well, especially through our camp here. Every player understands the importance of this match, and we are ready to fight for the team,” he said.
For Mgunda, the match will also be special because it will be his first Kariakoo Derby as a Simba player. He said he understands the magnitude of the fixture and is ready to make his contribution to help the team achieve the result it wants.
“This will be my first Derby since joining Simba, so I see it as a big match and one of special importance to me. I will give everything to ensure the team gets the result we want.”
“We respect Yanga as our opponents, but our focus is on our preparations and how we will play. I have great confidence in our squad,” he said.
Simba have set up a 10-day training camp in South Africa to prepare for the match, which will be played on October 10, as well as other Mainland Premier League and CAF Champions League (CAFCL) fixtures.
