Simba head coach Steve Barker has revealed the reason behind centre-back Rushine De Reuck’s impressive form, saying regular playing time has helped him rediscover the quality he showed before suffering injuries.
Barker said De Reuck has made a significant contribution to the Simba squad since arriving at Msimbazi, stressing that he had known the defender’s ability for years from his time at Maritzburg United in South Africa.
“Rushine has been very good for Simba since I arrived. I knew his quality many years ago when he was at Maritzburg, where he did well before moving to Sundowns,” Barker said.
Barker pointed out that De Reuck has added stability and quality to Simba’s defence, with his ability to play with the ball and initiate attacks from the back among the qualities that set him apart.
The coach said regular playing time has helped De Reuck regain his form, explaining that this could be the longest period in his career in which the defender has had the opportunity to play consistently.
“What he is doing for Simba, in terms of the stability and quality he brings to the defence and even in attack, is very good. He is composed on the ball and can build play from the back even in difficult situations,” Barker said.
De Reuck Important at the Start of the Season
De Reuck’s good form has continued to be evident this season, as he has been part of a Simba side that began their Mainland Premier League campaign with six consecutive victories.
Those results have taken Simba to 18 points, level with Yanga, who currently lead the league standings.
Rushine is part of the Simba squad currently based in South Africa, where they are continuing their preparations during the league break for the FIFA calendar.
The camp is part of the preparations for a congested schedule facing Wanasimba, including the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga on October 10 as well as CAF Champions League fixtures.
