Simba attacking midfielder Libasse Gueye has made a flying start to the 2026/27 season, putting himself into the conversation surrounding the Mainland Premier League’s assist records.
Gueye is currently the league’s leading assist provider after registering five assists in six league matches, while also scoring one goal. Those numbers have made him one of the players having a major influence on the early stages of the season.
His impressive start has raised one major question: Can Gueye break the assist record set by Feisal Salum ‘Fei Toto’ in the 2024/25 season?
In the 2024/25 season, Feisal Salum, then playing for Azam FC, led the league in assists with 13, according to official Premier League statistics. Yanga’s Maxi Nzengeli followed with 10, while Simba’s Jean Ahoua finished with nine.
Meanwhile, official statistics for the 2025/26 season show Simba’s Elie Mpanzu as the league’s leading assist provider with 10, followed by Feisal with nine. Maxi Nzengeli finished the season with seven.
Therefore, if Gueye maintains his current pace, he could have an opportunity to reach and even surpass Mpanzu’s record before turning his attention to Feisal’s mark.
What gives Gueye reason to dream of breaking the record is the fact that he has already registered five assists so early in the campaign.
Gueye has recorded those five assists in six matches, contributing directly to six of Simba’s goals, with one goal scored by him and five created for his teammates.
In simple terms, Gueye has already recorded more than one-third of Feisal’s 13-assist record, with the season still in its early stages.
Simba themselves have started the campaign strongly, winning their opening matches, with Gueye playing an important role in that start. In the club’s first five league matches, he had been directly involved in six goals, while creating 22 chances and providing eight key passes.
That form also helped Gueye win the Premier League Player of the Month award for August 2026.
