Kibaila Brace Powers Ngorongoro Heroes Into CECAFA U20 Semifinals

Bashiri Salum Kibaila emerged as one of Ngorongoro Heroes’ heroes after scoring twice in Tanzania’s 4-0 victory over Ethiopia, a result that sent the country into the semifinals of the CECAFA U20 tournament.

Kibaila, who plays for Simba SC, led Tanzania’s attack by scoring twice in the first half before Juma Sagwe completed the victory with two goals in the second half.

The Group A match was played on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

After Tanzania created several attacking opportunities, Kibaila broke the deadlock in the 30th minute.

The striker followed up on a rebound off Ethiopia’s right goalpost and found himself in the perfect position to finish, putting Ngorongoro Heroes 1-0 ahead.

The goal gave the Tanzanian youngsters greater confidence, as Ethiopia began to come under increasing pressure from the hosts’ attacks.

Kibaila was not satisfied with just one goal, as the Simba youngster returned to the penalty area just minutes before half-time and scored his second of the match.

Tanzania went into the break 2-0 ahead, with Kibaila having already put his name on the scoresheet twice.

The second half began with Ngorongoro Heroes continuing to search for more goals.

In the 53rd minute, Juma Sagwe scored Tanzania’s third goal, increasing the pressure on an Ethiopia side already facing a two-goal deficit.

Two minutes later, Sagwe struck again. His 55th-minute goal took Tanzania’s tally to four and completed the 4-0 victory.

Ngorongoro Heroes Score Seven Without Conceding

The victory put Tanzania at the top of Group A with six points after winning both of their matches.

In their opening match, Ngorongoro Heroes secured a 3-0 victory over Rwanda before maintaining their momentum with a 4-0 win over Ethiopia.

Across their two matches, the Tanzanian youngsters have scored seven goals without conceding a single goal.

It is a strong start for Ngorongoro Heroes in their quest to secure a place at the U20 AFCON.

After finishing top of the group, Tanzania will now turn their attention to the semifinals.

Ngorongoro Heroes will face Burundi on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in a match that will carry significance beyond simply securing a place in the final.

Burundi reached this stage with a strong record after winning both of their Group C matches against South Sudan and Kenya.

The other semifinal will see Uganda face Sudan.

The Final Is the Route to U20 AFCON

Tanzania’s campaign in this tournament has a bigger objective than simply winning the CECAFA title.

Under the qualification format for the tournament, the two teams that reach the final will represent the CECAFA region at the 2027 U20 AFCON finals in Ghana.

Therefore, victory over Burundi would be a major step for Ngorongoro Heroes towards reaching the final and securing a ticket to compete at the continental tournament.
