Simba’s 2-0 victory over Azam FC has been met with huge celebrations from the Reds of Msimbazi supporters.
The result extended Simba’s 100 percent winning record this season and, more importantly, earned them three points against a team that has disrupted their title calculations in recent seasons.
Last season alone, Simba collected just one point against Azam FC after playing out a goalless draw at Azam Complex before losing the other encounter.
Those results could be said to have contributed to Simba missing out on the league title by two points behind their rivals Yanga.
This season, Simba’s management has adopted a strategy aimed at addressing all the obstacles that emerged during the previous campaign.
Significant efforts are being made off the pitch by Simba officials, including substantial bonuses being placed on the table for players before every match.
Simba honorary president and billionaire Mohamed Dewji, popularly known as 'Mo', put Tsh 200 million on the table for the players to win their recent match against Azam FC.
He also offered a similar amount as an incentive for Simba to qualify from the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, with the players earning Tsh 100 million for each victory in their two matches against Mighty Wanderers.
Following the victory over Azam FC, all focus now turns to the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga, which is the next major fixture on October 10 after the FIFA international break.
It is another match Simba will be looking to win as they seek to strengthen their title campaign this season. To put themselves in a strong position in the championship race, beating Yanga would be particularly important.
Although it is still early in the season, the title race currently appears to be developing around Yanga and Simba. Taking three points against Yanga would therefore give Simba a significant advantage in the race.
