Simba will take on Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam today in the second leg of their CAF Champions League tie.
The Reds of Msimbazi head into the match with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Malawi, courtesy of a goal scored by Anicet Oura.
The result means Simba need either a win or a draw to secure their place in the next round of Africa’s premier club competition.
Simba head coach Steve Barker made it clear yesterday that his intention is to see his players secure a convincing victory in front of their home supporters, while warning them not to become complacent after their away win.
Barker has urged his players to maintain the highest level of discipline in order to protect the club’s reputation at home and extend their impressive record in CAF competitions.
Morale is high in the Msimbazi camp, with the players further motivated by a financial incentive from the club’s leadership, as Simba Honorary President and billionaire Mohamed Dewji has put Tsh 200 million on the table.
Mighty Wanderers, meanwhile, will need a miracle to overturn the tie at Uhuru Stadium. The Malawian side will need to score at least two goals and win the match to progress.
The good news for Simba is the return of attacking midfielder Libasse Gueye, who has completed his suspension following the red card he received in the competition last season.
Gueye has been a key player for Simba this season, contributing to six of the nine goals the club has scored in the league.
