Simba goalkeeper Djibrilla Kassali was a key weapon for the Reds of Msimbazi yesterday as they secured a 1-0 victory over Mighty Wanderers in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL).
Kassali demonstrated exactly why Simba’s decision to extend his contract was so important, as he played a 100 percent role in the victory.
It is rare to see a goalkeeper provide an assist, but that is exactly what Kassali did yesterday. His long ball was expertly finished by winger Anicet Oura, who scored Simba’s crucial away goal, securing victory for the Reds of Msimbazi and putting them in a strong position to advance to the next round of the competition.
Kassali also produced an outstanding performance in goal, making several crucial saves to deny dangerous attempts directed at him.
As the match entered its closing stages, Mighty Wanderers increased the pressure in search of an equaliser, but Kassali, working effectively alongside Simba’s defensive line, proved to be one of their biggest obstacles.
