The Reds of Msimbazi, Simba SC, are ready to begin their quest for African glory when they face hosts Mighty Wanderers FC in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The exciting encounter is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The match is expected to kick off at 10:00 p.m. East Africa Time, with fans able to watch the clash live on Azam Sports 2 HD.
Simba Arrive in Malawi in High Spirits
Simba have arrived in Malawi in high spirits after making an impressive start to the NBC Premier League season, with the Reds of Msimbazi winning all five of their opening matches.
The squad, led by head coach Steve Barker, has arrived with all of its key stars, including Clatous Chama, Elie Mpanzu, Libasse Gueye, Anicet Oura and skillful midfielder Ibrahim Jabeer. Expectations are high that Simba will return from Malawi with a positive result ahead of the second leg in Dar es Salaam.
Barker has stressed that Simba are not travelling to Malawi to underestimate their opponents, but rather to play with focus and discipline and secure a result that will put them in a strong position ahead of the return leg.
Mighty Wanderers Have Home Advantage
For the hosts, Mighty Wanderers believe playing in front of their home supporters will be a major weapon in the encounter.
The team has shown good form in the Malawi Premier League, winning eight of their 15 matches and suffering just one defeat.
The biggest threat to Simba is expected to come from their attacking line, which relies heavily on Promise Kamwendo and Lameck Mithi. The two forwards have already scored five league goals each, meaning Simba’s defence will have to remain alert throughout the full 90 minutes.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Charles Bulu of Ghana as the central referee for the match. Bulu will be assisted by other officials from Ghana and Nigeria.

After Sunday’s match in Malawi, Simba and Mighty Wanderers will meet again in the second leg on September 13, 2026, in Dar es Salaam.
The aggregate winner over the two legs will advance to the next round of the competition.
The winner of the tie will face the winner between 15 de Agosto of Equatorial Guinea and Fomboni FC of Comoros.
