As Tanzanian football giants Simba SC prepare to leave the country tomorrow, Friday, for Malawi ahead of their CAF Champions League clash against Mighty Wanderers, there is a strong possibility that the return leg could be played at Uhuru Stadium.
With Benjamin Mkapa Stadium closed for major renovations ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Simba will have to play their CAF home fixtures this season at either Uhuru Stadium or Azam Complex.
Simba’s Manager of Information and Communications, Ahmed Ali, has revealed that the club’s officials are in detailed discussions with the relevant authorities and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to conduct a final inspection of Uhuru Stadium.
The aim is to ensure that the historic stadium receives full approval and meets CAF’s requirements for hosting international matches.
Simba currently use Major General Isamuhyo Stadium for domestic competitions. However, the venue does not meet CAF’s requirements for international matches.
If Uhuru Stadium is not approved, Simba will have no choice but to play their home matches at Azam Complex, which is currently the only stadium approved by CAF for the preliminary and first qualifying rounds.
