Simba Launch 90th Anniversary Marathon to Unite Sports, Fans and Community

Simba Sports Club has launched the Simba Marathon, which will take place on October 4 this year as part of celebrations marking the club’s 90th anniversary. The event aims to bring together sports, fans and the wider community.

The marathon will be held on Sunday at Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam and will feature 5km, 10km and 21km races. Participants will receive a Simba Sports Club jersey, a medal and a race number after paying a registration fee of Sh45,000.

Simba’s Manager of Information and Communications, Ahmed Ally, said the club’s decision to organize the marathon was driven by its ambition to make the 90th-anniversary celebrations feature a variety of events that appeal to people from different groups.

Ahmed said reaching 90 years is no small achievement for the club, and therefore it would not have been appropriate for such a milestone to pass without major events celebrating Simba’s history and achievements.

“You all know that this year Simba has reached 90 years since the club was founded. In recognition of that, we have organized many events to mark the 90th anniversary. Reaching 90 years is not an easy achievement, and reaching such a milestone cannot pass without recognition,” he said.

He said that over those 90 years, Simba has not only built a reputation as one of the oldest clubs, but has also established a history of success in football.

He said the celebrations began with a Simba fans’ trip to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, an event that attracted a large number of people and became one of the biggest events ever held in the conservation area.

“We opened the 90th-anniversary celebrations by going to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and it remains one of the best events ever held there. According to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, it broke the record for the largest convoy of people entering the conservation area at the same time,” he said.

Following that event, the club continued the celebrations through Simba Day, with the management saying the activities will continue until the end of 2026.

Ahmed said that after organizing events largely connected to the club’s culture and football, Simba decided to take the celebrations into another sport that could bring together an even larger number of people.

“This time we said let’s take it outside the football environment and move into another event involving a different sport and different people, and that is how we came up with the Simba Marathon,” he said.

He emphasized that the Simba Marathon will not be an ordinary jogging event like those organized by some clubs, but a properly organized marathon competition conducted in accordance with the required rules and standards.

“Many clubs have already organized jogging events, and we also held one last year, but this is a marathon. This will truly bring together athletes,” he said.
