The Wekundu wa Msimbazi, Simba SC, have made a strong start to the 2026/27 Premier League season after defeating Kagera Sugar 2-0 at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera.
Simba dominated the match from the early stages, creating several chances, but Kagera Sugar’s defence remained solid and dealt with the threats around their goal.
However, Simba’s pressure finally paid off in the 45th minute when Ismail Toure opened his scoring account for the new season, heading home a corner delivered by Libasse Gueye to send Simba into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Simba returned with the same intensity in the second half and continued to dominate despite suffering a setback when David Kameta “Duchu” was sent off for a dangerous challenge. The red card was issued following the intervention of the Video Support System (FVS).
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Simba added a second goal in the 69th minute through Elie Mpanzu, who had come on as a second-half substitute.
As the match entered its closing stages, Simba suffered another setback when first-choice goalkeeper Djibrilla Kassali was injured and unable to continue. He was replaced by Hussein Abel.
After 90 minutes, the match ended with Steve Barker and his players securing their first three points of the season.
