Simba SC, the Wekundu wa Msimbazi, will take on Kagera Sugar at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera today, Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The opening league match of the 2026/27 season for both Simba SC and Kagera Sugar is expected to be highly competitive, with both teams eager to start the campaign with three valuable points.
The match, which was initially scheduled to be played at night, will now officially kick off at 4:00 p.m. following a schedule change made by the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB).
Simba arrived in Bukoba early yesterday; however, their final preparations were disrupted after the Msimbazi giants were unable to hold their final pre-match training session in Bukoba.
The decision followed changes to league regulations that prohibit teams from training at the match venue one day before a game.
With a shortage of quality alternative training grounds in the region, Simba’s technical bench was forced to cancel the session in order to protect the players from potential injuries.
Speaking ahead of the match, Simba’s Manager for Information and Communications, Ahmed Ally, said that despite the challenges with training facilities, the squad is safe and fully prepared to fight for all three points.
"Our objective this season is very clear: we want to restore the club’s honour by winning the Premier League title. That journey begins at Kaitaba, and we know Kagera Sugar are not a team to underestimate when playing at home, but we are prepared to fight," said Ahmed Ally.
