Simba suffered a 1-0 defeat to Yanga in the Community Shield clash played at the New Amaan Complex Stadium in Zanzibar.
Simba started the match strongly during the opening 25 minutes and will likely rue their failure to make the most of their early dominance.
They later lost control of the game to their rivals, who capitalised on an opportunity in the 31st minute through Albert Kangwanda.
Simba started the second half slowly, with the team appearing to lack a clear plan when it came to creating attacking opportunities.
However, as the match approached its conclusion, Simba increased the pressure in search of an equaliser, but they were unable to find a way through.
Speaking after the match, Simba head coach Steve Barker said his players needed to make better use of their chances when they had control of the game, stressing that matches of this nature rarely provide many opportunities.
It was not the result Simba wanted, but there is no time for blame as the club must now shift its focus to the league campaign.
