Simba striker Ibrahim Doumbia says he is under no pressure and believes it is only a matter of time before he begins rewarding the club's supporters with goals.
After failing to score in the two CECAFA Kagame Cup matches in which head coach Steve Barker gave him playing time, the Malian forward has faced heavy criticism on social media.
However, the striker, who joined the Msimbazi Reds from Mali's Olympique Dcheira, said such reactions are normal because supporters simply wanted to celebrate victories and goals that did not come in those matches.
Doumbia said he believes he has joined the right club, one filled with high-quality players. As a new arrival, he is still building chemistry with his teammates and is confident that their growing understanding will lead to success.
“This is a normal part of pre-season. We are still getting to know each other, but every day our understanding improves. I believe it won't be long before everything falls into place and I will be ready to help the team achieve its goals.”
“I have joined a group of very talented players. Everyone is eager to win, and that gives me confidence that we will have a great season. Our job is to keep working hard in training and follow the instructions of the coaching staff,” Doumbia said.
Doumbia arrived at Simba with an impressive record from last season in Mali. He finished as the league's top scorer with 17 goals in 24 matches and also scored four goals for Olympique Dcheira in the FA Cup.
Simba head coach Steve Barker has emphasized that it is too early to place pressure on Doumbia or the club's other new signings, noting that they need time to settle in, adapt to their teammates, and adjust to their new environment.
