With the fate of signing striker Suleiman Mwalimu on loan from Wydad AC uncertain following Wydad’s new stance, Simba’s management is reportedly back in the market searching for another striker.
Simba have already signed Malian forward Ibrahim Doumbia during this transfer window; however, head coach Steve Barker has requested additional reinforcement in the attacking department.
The pressure to strengthen the attack has increased after Simba played two Kagame Cup matches without scoring a goal.
Simba recorded goalless draws against Somalia’s Mogadishu City and South Sudan’s Jamus SC in matches where their supporters expected the team to secure convincing victories.
Searching for a high-profile striker
Reports indicate that the signing of a new striker will focus on international experience, as Simba are not looking for a player who is simply coming to “find his feet.”
Rumours have linked Congolese striker Fiston Mayele with Simba, although he is also reportedly being pursued by Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli.
Mayele recently ended his contract with Egyptian club Pyramids FC, where he enjoyed two successful seasons.
One of the player’s representatives, Yasmine Razack, said that the striker’s future will be known within a week.
Simba still pursuing Fei Toto
Simba are also continuing efforts to complete the signing of attacking midfielder Feisal Salum “Fei Toto” from Azam FC.
However, completing the deal has proven difficult due to the transfer fee demanded by Azam FC. It is reported that the Chamazi-based club wants around 2.5 billion before allowing the player to leave.
Fei Toto currently has only one year remaining on his contract with Azam FC and has refused to sign a new deal. If Simba submit the required amount now, they can secure his services, but if they wait until next season, they could potentially sign him for free.
Despite this situation, Azam FC have maintained their position of demanding the fee, regardless of the possibility of losing the player without compensation next season.
However, one thing is certain: Simba are preparing to respond to their rivals Yanga, who recently completed the signing of striker Peter Shalulile. Earlier reports indicated that Simba were the first club to open talks with the Namibian forward before withdrawing due to his high salary demands.
