Simba SC are reportedly in the final stages of completing the signing of Ivorian centre-back Serge Badjo.
Once again, the influence of head coach Steve Barker is said to have played a role in the process of securing the defender, who previously featured for Algeria’s USM Khenchela.
Simba are looking to strengthen their central defence due to injury concerns affecting their defenders Abdulrazak Hamza and Wilson Nangu, who have struggled with injuries since last season.
Badjo is set to join Simba as a free agent after his contract with Algerian Premier League club USM Khenchela expired.
The 1.88-metre-tall defender is known for his physical style of defending, aerial ability, and his strong capability to launch attacks from the back through accurate passing.
Before moving to Algeria, where he played for MC Alger and USM Khenchela, Badjo impressed in the Ivorian Premier League while representing SOL FC.
His experience playing highly competitive football in North Africa is viewed as a key advantage that could help Simba not only in the NBC Premier League but also in African club competitions.
Simba’s management has indicated that completing the deal is part of the technical team’s strategy to ensure the squad has reliable and quality options in every position. Badjo is expected to join the team directly during the pre-season training camp.
