Simba SC have been hit by a major challenge in the goalkeeping department this season after their key shot-stoppers suffered a series of injuries.
The problems began with Moussa Camara, who was injured early in the CAF Champions League preliminary stage.
Following his injury, which required him to travel to Morocco for surgery, second-choice goalkeeper Yacoub Suleiman stepped in to take over the role.
However, while on international duty with his national team during the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco, Yacoub also picked up an injury. This left Simba relying on Hussein Abel, who temporarily took charge before the club signed Djibrilla Kasalli in the mid-season transfer window.
Kasalli signed a short-term contract that is set to expire after the CRDB Cup final against Azam FC, which is scheduled to be played today, Saturday, at Gombani Stadium in Pemba.
Reports from within the club indicate that Simba have not held discussions to extend Kasalli’s contract, suggesting the club is planning a full reshuffle in the goalkeeping department.
Earlier, Simba had shown strong interest in Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali, but the move appears to have stalled due to the goalkeeper’s high demands. Nwabali is a former Chippa United shot-stopper from South Africa.
Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Nelson Chadya is among the names reportedly on Simba’s radar.
Another target is Gabon’s first-choice goalkeeper and Stella Club d’Adjamé star Loyce Mbaba (28) from Ivory Coast.
On the local front, Simba are also expected to sign a domestic goalkeeper, especially after Yacoub is set to undergo a second surgery that will rule him out for more than six months.
Pamba Jiji goalkeeper Yona Amos is among the players being considered. Amos has just finished his contract with Pamba Jiji and is also reportedly being pursued by Singida Black Stars.
