Simba head coach Steve Barker has praised his players following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mbeya City in an NBC Premier League match played at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on Wednesday.
Barker said that despite the difficult conditions they faced in Mbeya, his players showed great determination to secure the win and maintain pressure in the title race.
“I congratulate my players. It was not an easy match. Sometimes you need results regardless of how you play,” he said.
“We faced difficult conditions—playing at 2:00 PM on a pitch that is not 100 percent perfect required extra effort from the players.”
“But I am happy to see that the players fought hard and took one of the few chances we created. Our plan is to win every match and keep applying pressure in the title race,” Barker added.
The only goal of the match was scored by striker Elie Mpanzu, who finished off a fine assist from Clatous Chama, known as “The Lusaka Maestro.”
The Simba squad has already returned to Dar es Salaam, where they will have a day of preparation before traveling to Arusha for a CRDB Cup semifinal clash against Coastal Union, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium.
