Simba SC have opened negotiations with club captain Shomari Kapombe over a new contract, according to reports.
Kapombe is currently the longest-serving player in the Simba squad. Last season, he signed a one-year extension with the Msimbazi giants, a deal that is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Despite reports that Simba have already secured the signing of Azam FC right-back Nathaniel Chilambo, head coach Steve Barker is understood to still view Kapombe as an important part of his plans for the upcoming season.
There have also been reports linking the experienced defender with a move to Singida Black Stars, who are said to be monitoring his situation closely. However, Kapombe remains in discussions with Simba regarding a possible contract extension.
The veteran defender joined Simba in 2017 from Azam FC and has since spent nearly nine seasons with the club, becoming one of the team's most influential and respected figures.
Following the departures of Mzamiru Yassin and Mohamed Hussein during the previous major transfer window, Kapombe has become the most senior player in the current Simba squad.
