Simba SC Board of Directors Chairman Crescentius Magori has confirmed that goalkeeper Djibrilla Kassali’s contract will expire at the end of the season, with no renewal talks having been initiated so far.
Due to new registration rules, clubs are now allowed to register only one foreign goalkeeper, meaning Simba will have to make a key decision regarding their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.
On Moussa Camara, Magori stated that the goalkeeper remains a Simba player, although he was temporarily removed from the registration system to allow him to recover from injury, and he is now fully fit.
Magori added that Camara’s contract also expires at the end of the season, and his future will be decided at that time.
“Camara’s contract is coming to an end this season. The decision will be left to the technical bench—if they say we should offer him a new contract, we will do so. If we continue with Kassali, we will follow that direction, or we may decide otherwise. Our regulations allow only one foreign goalkeeper,” Magori said.
“We removed Camara from the registration list because he was expected to recover only around April or May. At that time, we were in the middle of major competitions and needed a goalkeeper available to play. Unfortunately, our second-choice goalkeeper Yakubu also got injured,” he added.
“We cannot register two foreign goalkeepers because the rules do not allow it. We had to tell Camara that we were removing him from the squad registration so we could bring in a goalkeeper who could play immediately. We could not wait with only one available keeper, Abel, until Camara returned, by which time the season would already be over,” he was quoted as saying by Mwanaspoti.
