You can now confidently say that Simba have rediscovered themselves. That statement no longer seems doubtful considering what the team is currently producing under head coach Steve Barker.
After several seasons of struggle, signs of the feared Simba side are finally beginning to reappear.
Simba have started playing the kind of football that once brought them major success in previous seasons.
Barker and his technical bench deserve praise for the tremendous work they have done on the training ground.
However, the Simba leadership under billionaire investor Mohamed Dewji “Mo” also deserve major credit for the strategic signings made during the last two transfer windows.
Last season, Mo made significant investments by bringing in coach Fadlu Davids and strengthening the squad with quality signings, moves that helped Simba reach the CAF Confederation Cup final under Fadlu’s leadership.
After Fadlu’s departure, Barker appears to have arrived to complete the unfinished project, especially after further reinforcements during the mid-season transfer window. Barker has restored Simba’s entertaining football culture — a style built around attacking play and plenty of goals.
In their last four matches, Simba have scored 12 goals without conceding. They defeated JKT Tanzania (1-0), Tanzania Prisons (4-0), Mashujaa FC (3-0), and most recently TRA United (4-0).
Simba are now winning matches with confidence and style. The tense and nervous moments that once surrounded the team appear to be disappearing.
At this rate, it is difficult to imagine Simba ending the season without a trophy — or perhaps even winning both the Premier League and the CRDB Cup titles.
