After a difficult period, it is fair to say that winger Elie Mpanzu has rediscovered his form, showing the sharpness that convinced Simba to sign him from AS Vita during last season’s mid-season transfer window.
Mpanzu has officially reclaimed his place in the starting lineup, regaining the trust of head coach Steve Barker after a slow start to life at the club.
The Congolese player has now started four consecutive matches and has played a direct role in several goals scored by the Msimbazi Reds.
He provided two assists in matches against Yanga and JKT Tanzania, with both goals scored by Clatous Chama.
Mpanzu is currently Simba’s leading assist provider with seven assists, while also scoring three goals this season.
He is the player involved in the highest number of goals for Simba this season, contributing to 10 goals in total. He is followed by Chama, who has been involved in eight goals, scoring five and providing three assists.
Striker Suleiman Mwalimu has been involved in seven goals, scoring six and assisting one, while Libasse Gueye has also contributed to seven goals with five goals and two assists.
Coach Barker has been using Mpanzu in different positions depending on the needs of the game. In the Muungano Cup final against Yanga, he started as a second striker before moving to the wing after Anicet Oura suffered an injury.
