Simba head coach Steve Barker has praised Mafunzo FC for their performance after his team secured a victory in the Muungano Cup quarter-final match played yesterday at the New Amaan Complex.
In the match, Simba had to wait until the second half to score the only goal of the game, netted by Suleiman Mwalimu. Mafunzo were solid, especially in defense, and relied on quick counterattacks.
"I sincerely congratulate our opponents, Mafunzo FC. They really gave us a tough match. They were very good at closing spaces and forced us to work extra hard to win this game."
"However, we came into this match with clear objectives, which we have achieved. We needed the win to progress to the next stage."
"We also used this game to give opportunities to some players who havenβt featured much, with the aim of giving them experience and increasing competition within our squad," said Barker.
The victory secured Simba a place in the semi-finals, where they will face Mlandege FC on Sunday, April 26, at the New Amaan Complex.
