Simba’s head coach, Steve Barker, is reported to have recommended to the club’s management that attacking midfielder Elie Mpanzu be given a contract extension, as he still considers him an important part of the squad.
After appearing to struggle at the beginning of this season, Mpanzu seemed to have lost confidence, with reports suggesting he was planning to leave at the end of the season after a failed move during the mid-season transfer window.
Simba has acted on Barker’s request, showing strong commitment to retaining the DR Congo star, whom the coach believes still has the ability to play a key role for the team—despite doubts about his form following the arrival of new signings during the mid-season window, including Anicet Oura, Libase Gueye, and Ino Loemba.
This move means the player will continue serving Simba until December 2028, extending his previous contract which was nearing its end.
For a long time, Mpanzu had been linked with a move away from Msimbazi due to his contract situation, raising concerns among the club’s fans.
However, the club’s leadership, under investor Mohamed Dewji, has stepped in to secure the squad by ensuring the player remains with the team.
