Simba head coach Steve Barker has clearly outlined his objectives ahead of the Mapinduzi Cup tournament, with Simba expected to take to the pitch tomorrow to face Muembe Makumbi.
Speaking during a press conference earlier today, Barker said his main goal is to lift the trophy.
Barker also noted that the tournament will help him better understand his players and possibly make key improvements to build a stronger squad.
"We have entered this tournament with the ambition of becoming champions. But it will also help me get to know the players better, and secondly, it is part of our preparations for other upcoming competitions, including the Champions League," said Barker.
Simba, who are in Group B, will begin their campaign tomorrow, January 3, 2026, against Muembe Makumbi City at the New Amaan Complex Stadium in Unguja, before facing Fufuni on January 5, 2026, in their final group-stage match.
After the tournament, Simba will turn their attention to the CAF Champions League, where they will face Tunisiaβs Esperance, starting away on January 23, 2026, before hosting the return leg on January 30, 2026.
In the Champions League, Simba have lost their first two matches and currently sit at the bottom of Group D.
