Tanzania’s national team, Taifa Stars, made a disappointing start to the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco after suffering a 2–1 defeat to Nigeria in their opening Group C match.
The side coached by Miguel Gamondi played with discipline and great caution, relying mainly on counter-attacks.
Nigeria took the lead in the 36th minute through Semi Ajayi, who finished off a cross from Alex Iwobi.
Taifa Stars responded just minutes after the start of the second half when Charles M’Mombwa clinically converted a pass from Novatus Dismas.
However, Nigeria regained the lead shortly afterward through Ademola Lookman.
Stars finished the match strongly and even had a chance to equalize in the dying minutes.
Although Taifa Stars lost the match, it can be said that the team performed well, especially in the second half.
