Simba are in the process of searching for a new head coach, as the club continues to receive CVs and hold discussions with various coaches to replace Dimitar Pantev, who was dismissed at the end of last month.
The name that has recently emerged is Miguel Gamondi, who is currently the head coach of Singida Black Stars and also serves as the interim head coach of Taifa Stars, as the national team prepares for the AFCON 2025 finals set to begin this weekend in Morocco.
Besides Gamondi, Simba are also reported to be considering former Burkina Faso head coach Hubert Velud.
Simba’s interest in Gamondi is largely due to his deep understanding of Tanzanian football, a factor that would allow him to adapt quickly and build rapport with the players should he be appointed.
Gamondi also has strong credentials in international competitions, having previously guided rivals Yanga to the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League in the 2023–2024 season.
However, the main challenge that could stand in his way is gaining trust from sections of the Simba fraternity.
It is very rare, especially for foreign coaches, to manage both Simba and Yanga. Only a handful of coaches have been trusted with the responsibility of leading both of these archrivals.
Simba are also weighing up Velud as an alternative option. The French coach has extensive experience in North African football, having worked in Tunisia with Étoile du Sahel and Stade Tunisien.
He has also coached in Algeria with ES Sétif, USM Alger, CS Constantine, JS Kabylie, and MC Oran, and later in Morocco with Hassania Agadir, Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi, and AS FAR.
