Simba’s top leadership, led by Board Chairman Crescentius Magori, is expected to convene to decide the fate of the new head coach who will take over the position left vacant by Dimitar Pantev, who was recently dismissed.
According to early reports from Mwanaspoti, Simba has begun talks with Spanish coach Antonio Casano Cantos, who boasts experience coaching in Angola and Morocco through clubs such as Petro Atletico and Moghreb Atletico Tetouan.
In addition to Casano, Simba is also said to be eyeing Steve Barker, the current coach of South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC, who faced Simba last season in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals—a tie Simba won 1–0 on aggregate.
The search for Pantev’s successor involves multiple strategic steps, including the upcoming meeting which, aside from Magori, will include other top executives. The gathering is expected to take place at a five-star hotel and will involve investor-side board members representing Mohammed “MO” Dewji, as well as all club-side board members under Chairman Murtaza Mangungu.
Reports from within Simba indicate that the two sides will table the names of coaches who have submitted their CVs, from which at least three will be shortlisted.
Those three candidates will then undergo further assessment, and the most suitable among them will be offered the job to lead Simba, working alongside interim coach Selemani Matola.
Matola himself is also among the candidates being considered for the role, although the outcome of yesterday’s loss to Azam FC may have weakened his chances.
