The defensive line clearly appears to be facing challenges, especially when centre-back Rushine De Reuck is absent. De Reuck suffered an injury during the CAF Champions League match against Stade Malien, in which he played only the first half.
He is currently Simba’s lead defender, and his absence in yesterday’s match against Azam FC was evident.
Wilson Nangu and Carabou Chamou struggled with coordination—perhaps because this was only their second match playing together as a central defensive pair.
It is clear that Simba needs another experienced centre-back, with rumours strongly linking Hennock Inonga Baka with a return to Msimbazi.
Inonga is currently in the country looking for an opportunity to rejoin the club after leaving AS FAR in the last transfer window.
Simba also needs to strengthen the right-back position, as captain Shomari Kapombe has been overworked, and there are moments when his “tank runs out of fuel.”
The attacking department is also an area of concern, with many chances being wasted. Simba may need to hire a specialised strikers’ coach.
In modern football, many teams employ specialised coaches for strikers—or even for the defensive line.
Simba has three forwards—Jonathan Sowah, Suleiman Mwalimu and Steven Mukwala—so the squad seems well-stocked in that department but in need of improved technical efficiency.
The Chairman of Simba’s Board of Directors, Crescentius Magori, has hinted that the team will undergo reinforcements once the mini-transfer window opens.
Without doubt, any improvements will likely address the highlighted weaknesses and incorporate recommendations from the technical bench.
