Simba’s Acting Head Coach Suleiman Matola is receiving strong backing to be appointed as the club’s full-time head coach following the dismissal of former General Manager Dimitar Pantev.
Yesterday, Matola guided Simba to a 3–0 victory over Mbeya City in his first match since taking over as caretaker coach.
This is the second time Matola has stepped in as interim head coach, having also taken charge earlier this season after the departure of Fadlu Davids.
When Fadlu left, Matola led Simba in two Premier League matches against Fountain Gate and Namungo FC—both ending in 3–0 victories for the Reds.
Under his leadership, Simba have won all three league matches, scoring nine goals and keeping clean sheets in all of them.
Reports from within the board suggest that several members are convinced Matola has matured and is now ready to be trusted with the top job.
Perhaps his biggest test will come on Sunday when Simba face Azam FC, coached by Florent Ibenge.
If Matola guides Simba to victory in this match, he will undoubtedly strengthen his chances of being confirmed as the full-time head coach.
