In recent days, social media has been filled with claims that the international giant DP World is planning to invest in or acquire shares in Simba Sports Club, with additional rumors suggesting that the club’s main investor, Mohammed “Mo” Dewji, is preparing to step aside.
These rumors have created significant confusion among Simba fans. So far, no credible news outlet—inside or outside Tanzania—has published any official or verified report about DP World investing in or acquiring shares in Simba SC. Likewise, neither Simba SC nor DP World has issued any statement confirming such information.
Despite the circulating reports, Mo Dewji still owns 49 percent of the club’s shares, and he has repeatedly emphasized that he will continue to support Simba. It is true that he resigned from his position as Chairman of the Board earlier, but he never stated that he was leaving as an investor.
There is no evidence that Dewji has sold his shares or plans to withdraw from the club’s investment. It should be understood that major changes of this nature cannot be carried out secretly; there would be clear communication from the club as well as legal and membership processes.
The Simba leadership has a history of issuing official statements regarding major changes such as sponsorships, investment projects, and board adjustments. If an investment of this scale were taking place, the club would provide a public announcement.
Therefore, as of now, there is no such confirmed information, and if the matter does exist, it might be clarified during the Simba Members’ General Meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, November 30, in Dar es Salaam.
