The Simba SC squad has set up camp in Bunju as they continue preparations for their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie against Nsingizini of Eswatini, following their successful advancement from the first round.
Head Coach Dimitar Pentev is overseeing the training sessions as he prepares for two crucial upcoming matches.
The Bulgarian tactician, formerly in charge of Gaborone United, recently led Simba in his first friendly match against Al Hilal, where his team claimed a 2–1 victory.
Pentev has made his philosophy clear to the players, emphasizing that he wants to work with a smaller, cohesive group characterized by hard work, discipline, and teamwork both on and off the pitch.
He has also told the players that everyone must follow instructions and execute what is practiced in training. Since his arrival at Simba, he has not been informed that the team has a fixed first eleven — meaning every player has an equal opportunity to earn a spot based solely on performance, not reputation.
“The coach has already spoken with the management. He wants to work with a smaller squad. I think there are players he might recommend for loan or transfer by January. He believes that working with fewer players encourages more effort and makes it easier for his technical team to monitor progress than having a 30-man squad,” said a source quoted by Mwanaspoti.
“He has also stated that there are no big-name players at the club. Everyone must respect the rules and listen to the coaches. For now, there is no permanent starting lineup — whoever performs best in training will play. What matters to him is quality, not history,” the source added.
